A live artwork shaped by many hands

A biotech and healthcare organisation preparing a gathering that would place patients and professionals in the same room. The organisation wanted the day to hold something beyond presentation slides — a shared experience that could carry the values people came to speak about.

To develop an artistic response that could be seen, spoken to and entered into. The invitation asked ARTKOM to work in three registers at once: a commissioned artwork, an artist talk, and small participatory sessions where people could enter the material themselves.

A commissioned painting shaped in dialogue with the organisation's language of care. An artist talk placing the work inside a wider participatory practice. And small, carefully held creative sessions in which managers, researchers and patients worked alongside one another in the same material.

Participants moved between watching, listening and making. The commissioned work anchored the day visually. The talk connected artistic practice to the reasons people were in the room. The sessions gave the day a body — pigment, paper, shared surfaces, quiet attention across roles.

Roles softened around the shared work. Patients and professionals contributed inside the same material register. Something visible remained after the day — a work and a felt sense that art can hold what conversation alone does not always reach.
